Before that, I need to remind you clearly that most of the time we have things that happen when we are using a slow Internet connection.
The only thing we blame is our Internet Service Provider (ISP) for slow internet connection, but this is not the case all the time. Sometimes the problem is related to the default DNS (domain name system) used by ISPs. So, before I tell you how to get some fast Internet speeds about DNS, let’s explain it.
What is DNS?
DNS – Domain Name System – is a naming system that is used to convert domain names into IP addresses. Domain names are often alphanumeric for us to remember quickly but in reality work on Internet IP addresses. The DNS server for a domain name-returns its corresponding IP address when requested by your computer (the customer).
DNS has its own network i.e; a DNS server may ask another DNS server to translate a specific domain name to its corresponding IP address until it receives the correct result.
Computers and other devices use IP addresses to route traffic, and this is a lot like dialing a phone number. Domain Name System is an act for the exceptional operator to helps us bypass the infinite address book of IP addresses. Your DNS manages this big task.
How does an alternative DNS service speed up your browsing?
As I Said above, Internet speed like your turtle is not always your Internet service provider’s fault. Instead, it may be due to a disabled DNS server. So why not use an alternative DNS service? As current web pages continue to become more complex by incorporating countless things, customers go for multiple DNS lookups for single web page rendering. With the clock blowing the internet, the existing DNS infrastructure is under load every day.
Now, I’ll tell you to use independent public DNS services that tell your computer to use custom DNS servers instead of the default DNS server from your ISP. It helps you achieve faster internet speeds.

OpenDNS is one of the most popular free DNS services that was launched to provide users with alternative methods that were not satisfied with their existing DNS servers.
How to configure OpenDNS in Microsoft Windows?
You can set OpenDNS as the preferred DNS server on Microsoft Windows by following the steps outlined below. This will allow various applications to perform DNS lookup using OpenDNS instead of your ISP’s default DNS server.
- Step 1- To get faster Internet speeds using OpenDNS, open the control panel.
- Step 2- Go to Network & Sharing Center.
- Step 3- Here, click the name of the network connection, WiFi or Ethernet.
- Step 4- In the next window that pops up, click Properties.
- Step 5- Go to Internet Protocol Version (TCP / IPv4) option and click Properties.
- Step 6- Now use the DNS Server Addresses radio button below and click Enter addresses below to get faster internet speed.
To Preferred DNS server: 22.214.171.124
An Alternate DNS server: 126.96.36.199
If you want, you can exchange these addresses. Save and click OK to continue.

In what way do you configure IPv6 custom DNS:
As the adoption of IPv6 addresses is increasing, it is time for you to configure IPv6 DNS servers as well. Highlight Internet Protocol version High (TCP / IPv6) and click Properties.
Below to choose the following DNS server addresses:
- Preferred DNS server: 2620:0:ccc::2
- Alternate DNS server: 2620:0:ccd::2

How To Replace the Address;
Then By Replace those addresses with the IP Addresses of Google DNS servers in the above configured from step-6, we have to major. Such as;
- For IPv4: 188.8.131.52 and/or 184.108.40.206.
- For IPv6: 2001:4860:4860::8888 and/or 2001:4860:4860::8844
In a nutshell, OpenDNS, Google DNS has reduced the time it takes to resolve domain names on the web and make the Internet faster. This does not increase the maximum available bandwidth for your connection. Besides, they are more reliable than the default ones used by the ISP. Should I mention one of them was made by Google? These custom DNS servers face downtime, less frequently, due to power outages or some other hardware issues.
Both Google DNS and OpenDNS work fine, but people prefer Google DNS. You can choose to go for any of these and see if your internet speed is up.
